1930's

Turn Back Time : the High Street - BBC1 9pm.
The 1930's - Interwar years.
I think this has been my favourite episode so far. Hope you enjoy some of the photos that I took during the filming in Shepton Mallet over the summer.

  1. Yes, it was wonderful,at least the 15 mins I caught of it at the latter end!
Nostalgia gets in on quite a few scenes doesn't it? Good publicity do you think? And free!
I loved the (?sp) Charabang bus!
    Thanks for sharing your photos.

  2. Wonderful photos, and great to see all the vintage fashions. Too bad we can't tune into this, in the States...not yet anyway!

  4. I really enjoyed last nights episode, shame she didn't sell much "off the peg" items in the dressmakers as quite a few were mine! Would it be OK if I took a couple of photos of the shops from your blog for my own use? I only have one or two and they are not great... Have a good day. Liz xx

  5. HI Niki
I wondered if you and Lizzie had supplied the dress shop, and who is the lovely old lady she is a great character.

  6. Tuesdays with Kirsty and Shepton and a bottle of wine is turning into my girly night!!

Thanks for these fab pics- like the Director's Out-takes.

The dressmaker and butcher's son are turning into litte stars aren't they, but I do wish the baker's wife would stop moaning about everything!

  7. Hi Liz,
Thanks for your blog comment...Yes, please feel free to use my photos...
I bought most of the dresses that were made by the wardrobe dept. which didn’t sell...Some have been used in a window display in the town (which gets changed each week with each new era) – I have one in my shop’s window, and some I shall keep as souvenirs...they were expensive considering they were basically repro (although vintage fabrics and old patterns were used)...so probably explains why not many sold at the time (they were small sizes too!)...I just didn’t want everything leaving Shepton after Wall to Wall left, so I bought what I could afford...
(Ooo, I bought a gorgeous evening headpiece too, which I spotted displayed on a fabulous torso mannequin...Wish I could have bought her actually, as well!)

  8. It was a great episode, love your photos too.
I remember going on charabang trips to the seaside and into Derbyshire with my Nan and the Over 60's Club back in the 50's.

  9. Hi Niki

I enjoyed this one, too. It was lovely to see the Force cereal advertisement with the Lucky Jim mask. Ancestors on Mum's side of the family were the "inventors" of Force and so Mum and her siblings had it most mornings for breakfast!
